The abused will not learn

IMG_1754

No species can learn when they are abused. No human, no dog, no horse,no killer whale, no chicken. Nobody.

If a two year old child got smacked on the nose for making a mess while eating, would it be training or abuse?

If a baby had faeces smeared all over his face for not using the toilet, would it be training or abuse?

If a child was shouted at and smacked on the head for not understanding a foreign language, would it be training or abuse?

If a teenager got pinned to the ground and held there forcefully to ‘get the idea of who’s in power here’, would it be training or abuse?

If schoolchildren had to wear handcuffs that cause them pain to make it easy for a teacher to control their behaviour, would it be training or abuse?

If someone causes pain or distress, do they train or abuse?

Whenever you think training looks more like abuse, it’s because it is. If you or your dog doesn’t like the way your dog trainer works, no matter how ‘experienced’ or ‘famous’ they are: stop them and walk away. Dogs are members of the family. If they are bullied or abused it’s up to us to stop the bullies or abusers. Obedience to authority can harm, follow your conscience.

If you’re unfamiliar with Milgram experiment BBC Horizon one is my favourite.
